Multiphase rectifiers are widely employed to enhance the power level of inductive power transfer systems. However, due to the parameter deviations of circuits, unbalanced currents are inevitable, leading to a comparatively lower system power level. Thus, a novel current balancing method for multiple-phase rectifiers is proposed to address the issue. The idea of the proposed method is to split the multiple-strand Litz wire used in the receiving coil into multiple windings, connect each winding to a single corresponding phase of the multiple-phase rectifier, and then compensate each winding independently. As a result, the loop impedance deviations are reduced, and the unbalanced currents are alleviated. The advantage of the proposed method is that no extra voltage-ampere capacity is required to achieve the current balancing. Finally, a prototype is built to validate the performance of the proposed approach. The experiment results show that the proposed method is effective. With the proposed method, the maximum deviation of the currents significantly decreases by 27.6% at a maximum from 28.4% to 0.8%.
