• A parameter condition enabling an exact solution of the time-dependent Jaynes–Cummings model. • Evolution operators for the resonant and non-resonant time-dependent Jaynes–Cummings models. • Evolution of the atomic population inversion for nontrivial time-dependent atom-field couplings. • A simple approximate expression for the time evolution of the atomic population inversion.
