• MIR spectroscopy showed a prediction advantage specific to MAOC over NIR. • PLSR methods showed the highest pooled prediction performance among model families. • Soil texture and latitude were dominant drivers of POC prediction. • POC prediction accuracy was higher in mid- to high-latitude regions. • MAOC prediction is sensitive to spectroscopy type and soil texture.
