A luminescent heterometallic multifunctional theranostic Eu-Pt-2 complex [{cis-PtCl2(DMSO)}(2)Eu(L)(H2O)] has been synthesized, possessing two therapeutic Pt-centers as covalent DNA binders and one emissive Eu3+-center which is sensitized by platinumbased metal-to-ligand charge-transfer excited states.
