Abstract

Industry faces the challenge of varied products with small batch sizes which make efficient assembly difficult. The manual effort to create assembly instructions and the lack of qualified personnel intensify the problem, as long familiarization times are required. To address this issue, we propose a method for automatically generating 3D assembly instructions in geometry-based 3D-CAD software that takes both geometric and non-geometric components into account. The proposed method includes the enrichment of the 3D-CAD Model of a product with assembly relevant information. Furthermore, an algorithm analyses the product to find assembly paths based on the Assembly by Disassembly principle. A Large Language Model converts the user given assembly sequence together with the product's assembly information into comprehensible work instructions which are stored directly on the 3D-CAD model of the respective components as Product and Manufacturing Information.
