• Jute fiber is carbonized to prepare multi-channel hollow carbon (MCHC) microfiber. • In situ precipitation of Fe3O4 nanoparticles is carried out. • A protective aminated SiO2 layer improved stability of composite microfiber. • A maximum As(III) monolayer capacity of 110 mg g−1 is achievable at 305 K. • The paramagnetic composite microfiber showed endothermic chemisorption behavior.
