• An improved two-zone model is proposed for the design of SCO2 centrifugal compressor. • Model accuracy and computational efficiency are enhanced by SOA curves and primary flow deviation angle curves. • Model validity is confirmed against published available data and CFD simulation. • Blade tip leakage effects on compressor aerodynamic performance are elucidated.
