• Total arsenic exhibited a distinct west-to-east declining spatial trend, with the maximum concentration (34.71 μg g−1) occurring at Xiaoqinghe River estuary due to intensive chemical and petrochemical industrial inputs. • Modified BCR sequential extraction revealed residual arsenic as the dominant fraction; the proportion of bioavailable acid-soluble arsenic increased toward offshore waters, suggesting potential secondary release risks under tidal disturbance. • Multiple pollution assessment tools (EF, Igeo, Eri,RAC, MF) indicated low overall ecological risk across the study area; only riverine sediments along Xiaoqinghe River suffered moderate arsenic contamination.
