• State-wise review shows big regional variation in RES generation across India. • Wind clusters in West/South (Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra); Rajasthan leads North. • Solar hotspots in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka; small hydro peaks in Himachal, Karnataka, MH, Kerala. • RES is ∼43% of India’s installed power capacity; solar is the key driver of growth. • Key scaling barriers: grid/transmission limits, storage needs, policy gaps, financing, and regional inequities.
