• Constructs a national unified power system model considering inter-provincial transmission grids. • Simulates the dynamic expansion planning of the power system from 2020 to 2050. • 1993GW transmission grids is need for inter-provincial power exchange in 2050. • The total inter-provincial electricity exchange is 57% of the total annual power demand in 2050. • The total cost from 2020 to 2050 is 155 trillion yuan.
