• CromaLux lighting and cleaning systems were evaluated in a case study. • The carbon footprint is 24% lower for CromaLux LEDs than for conventional white LEDs. • Reinforced-ethanol cleaning uses ∼ 20% less CO2-eq but is 22% more costly than Biotin. • CromaLux could halt biofouling and reduce carbon emissions by up to 16.83 kg CO2-eq. • CromaLux could yield annual savings of up to 3.64 tCO2-eq and €1269.91 at city level.
