• Stack gas dispersion under different atmospheric stabilities is modeled. • Procedure for employing the MOST-based boundary conditions is improved. • CFD modeling of stack gas dispersion is compared with the Gaussian plume model. • Thermal stability effects on the plume dispersion are analyzed.
