• A one-step crosslinking connects MXene nanosheets and increases interlayer spacing. • Vacuum freeze-drying preserves the crosslinked morphology with rich porous structure. • Electrodes have excellent capacitance (149F g-1) and retain 93% after 200 cycles. • Electrodes demonstrate outstanding SAC (45.5 mg g–1) and SAR (10.57 mg g–1 min–1).
