Emission and absorption spectroscopy is widely used to determine key features of laboratory and astrophysical plasmas including temperature, density, degree of ionization, and composition. PrismSPECT is a 0D (single cell) atomic kinetics and spectral analysis code that solves a set of collisional-radiative atomic rate equations to compute level populations. Once the populations are known, PrismSPECT calculates detailed emissivities, opacities, and specific intensities. The code has been extensively used for high-energy density plasma research, tokamak plasmas, laboratory astrophysics, as well as for industrial applications. In this paper, we will discuss key physical models of PrismSPECT and their importance for high-fidelity simulations of a plasma's radiative properties.
