DAAPS: Distributed Anonymous Access Control for Pervasive Edge Computing Services

Pervasive edge computing (PEC) is a new computing paradigm that allows any capable and authenticated entity at the network edge to join and provide edge services dynamically, eliminating the need for pre-deployed static edge servers. Existing PEC access control schemes fail to fully address the challenges of anonymous service utilization and identity auditing. In this paper, we present DAAPS, a distributed access control scheme for PEC services that ensures both anonymity and auditability. Specifically, DAAPS introduces an anonymous token generation mechanism to enable privacy-preserving service utilization. This mechanism allows users to generate blinded tokens, which can be used to access edge services without revealing their original identities. Edge servers can authenticate users’ service privileges without exposing the original tokens or identities. DAAPS further utilizes an identity proof mechanism to enable identity auditing, allowing users’ identities to be retrieved in cases of malicious service utilization. Moreover, we integrate a multi-authority attribute-based encryption (MABE) scheme with the above mechanisms. This integration enables DAAPS to achieve mutual authentication and authorization between edge servers and users in dynamic PEC environments. We provide comprehensive security proofs showing that DAAPS is resistant to several type of attacks. We also evaluate the performance of DAAPS to demonstrate its efficiency in terms of computational, communication, and storage costs.
