Darwin: A DRAM-Based Multi-Level Processing-in-Memory Architecture for Column-Oriented Database

我们提出了一种名为Darwin的实用LRDIMM基多级处理内存储(PIM)架构,用于数据分析,该架构利用行组、行组、芯片和秩级并行性来开发DRAM的内部带宽。考虑到数据分析算子和DRAM的面积限制,Darwin通过将PIM处理单元、缓冲区和控制电路分布在整个DRAM层次结构中,最大化内部带宽。Darwin支持一种新型PIM指令架构,该架构将针对行组处理实体的多线程执行指令串联起来,通过允许同时独立控制多达512个不同的内存处理单元来缓解命令瓶颈。我们构建了一个周期精确的仿真框架,用于评估Darwin在各种DRAM配置、优化方案和工作负载下的性能。借助多种优化方案,Darwin在非优化版本上实现了最高14.7倍的加速。Darwin架构在基本数据分析算子上比基准CPU系统(Intel Xeon Gold 6226 + 4通道DDR4-2933)实现了4.0倍至43.9倍的吞吐量提升,并将能耗降低了85.7%。与最先进的PIM相比,Darwin在基本查询算子和TPC-H查询中分别实现了最高7.5倍和7.1倍的提升。Darwin在GDDR6配置下仅需5.6%的面积开销,表明其作为一种未来主存储系统的有前景的PIM解决方案。
