Distracted driving has become a serious problem for driving safety with the growing number of fatalities each year. Existing mobile and wearable based distracted driving detection systems have shortcomings of requiring additional hardware or explicit user involvement for training. Moreover, the excessive use of various sensors can cause fast battery drain and overheating which is less practical for daily use. In this work, we present a wearable-based distracted driving detection system leverages Bluetooth. Our system exploits already in-vehicle Bluetooth compatible devices to track the driver's hand position and infer unsafe driving behaviors. The proposed system doesn't require explicit user cooperative for training, and involves low energy consumption. Experiments show our system can achieve over 95% distracted driving detection accuracy under various scenarios.
