• A bivalent vaccine was improved using fucoidan as an adjuvant against Aeromonas hydrophila and Edwardsiella tarda. • Oral vaccination elicited a good immune response. • Fucoidan adjuvanted vaccines showed relatively higher RPS. • Specific and nonspecific immunity was increased in vaccinated fish. • The intestinal microbiome was evaluated to observe the impact of vaccination on host-pathogen interactions.
