Abstract
If we look back on our story we might summarize: laborious and imaginative pioneering was done over about 100 years in the past. As soon as a few basic principles were established, the synthesis, structure, and uses of elastomers rapidly invaded large disciplines of polymer science and engineering in 60 years up to the present. From now on, in the future, there can be expected a period of more concentrated efforts on selected problems of special urgency.
