• A specific DNA probe was selected from kinetoplast gene sequence of L. infantum. • The DNA probe was immobilized on a gold surface to fabricate an electrochemical L. infantum biosensor. • The biosensor detected DNA targets with a nice selectivity. • L. infantum genomic DNA was quantified by the biosensor in clinical samples.
