• Electrochemistry creates mobile ions, causing low breakdown voltages near −5 V • More than 1018 cm−3 mobile ions are created in 3 min of reverse bias at −6 V • Hole-transport layers (HTLs) inhibit Pb reduction and limit mobile ion generation • Weak HTLs enable reduction, mobile ion creation, and cell degradation
