Engineered bismuth oxyhalides/g-C3N4 S-scheme heterojunction for tetracycline photodegradation: An experimental and DFT study

• A novel S-scheme NSCN/BiOCl0.5Br0.5 heterojunction was constructed. • 94% tetracycline degradation was achieved within 75 min under simulated solar irradiation. • Cl/Br ratio tuning balanced light harvesting and surface redox potential. • h+, •OH, and e− played key roles in tetracycline photodegradation. • DFT calculations confirmed the built-in electric field at the interface.
