• Mg/Te co-doping is innovatively applied to O3-type NaNi₁/₃Fe₁/₃Mn₁/₃O₂ to address its structural and performance defects. • The high-rate performance and cycling stability of NFM are significantly improved via Mg/Te co-doping. • This synergistic co-doping strategy provides a new approach for high-performance layered oxide cathodes of sodium-ion batteries.
