• A highly efficient flotation method for GFS using talc plugging was proposed. • The effects of reagent and talc dosage on residual carbon recovery were analyzed. • The mechanism by which talc blocking enhanced carbon recovery was revealed. • Efficient recovery of residual carbon from GFS was achieved.
