Abstract

• Indirect dedicated mechanical subcooling (IDMS) evaluated in a CO2 heat pump. • IDMS improves performance if the base system operates under low efficiency conditions. • COP improves up to 5.7% at temperatures above 45°C, little gain or degradation below. • Gas cooler pressure reductions between 3.9 and 11.4% found at temperatures below 55°C. • Compressor discharge temperature reduction in all conditions studied.
