Abstract

• An integrated SMLC-UTP strategy is developed to unlock the high-value potential of low-grade diatomite (L-DE). • The SMLC process effectively purifies and structurally modifies L-DE, significantly enhancing its SiO₂ content and porosity. • NT-DE composite exhibits superior photocatalytic activity due to enhanced NT dispersion, MB adsorption, and charge separation via Si–OH groups. • Techno-economic analysis confirms the strategy's viability, reducing cost and carbon footprint by 78% compared to previously reported photocatalysts.
