• The global-national potential for sustainable bio-syngas is assessed until 2050. • Bio-syngas from waste and residue is considered as feedstock for biomass-to-X. • Global bio-syngas is projected to be in the range of 20,890 – 27,893 TWh by 2050. • The levelised cost of bio-syngas is projected to be 62.2 €/MWh by 2050. • The levelised cost of e-syngas is projected to be 31.4 €/MWh by 2050.
