Abstract

Two dimensional (2D) tin halide perovskites have attracted great attention as promising lead-free alternatives due to their excellent optoelectronic properties and low toxicity. To gain deep insights into the structural features, optoelectronic behavior, and stability of tin-based perovskites, this work reported the synthesis of a series of 2D tin halide perovskites with the general formula (m-XPEA)2SnI4, where X = F, Cl or Br and m = 2, 3 or 4 denotes the position of halogen substitution on the phenylethylammonium (PEA) benzene ring. A set of halogenated phenylethylamine derivatives differing in both halogen identity and substitution site were employed as organic precursors. The resulting materials were thoroughly characterized, and the effects of halogen type and positional isomerism on crystal structure and functional properties were systematically investigated. This work provides a foundational understanding for tailoring the performance of tin-based organic-inorganic perovskites and advances their potential application in next-generation optoelectronic devices.
