To improve the reactivity of black talc, high-temperature modification was applied to modify it, decomposing its layered structure into enstatite and amorphous SiO2 at 1100 °C, which reduces the required synthesis temperature and holding time for cordierite formation. Using 60 wt% of this modified black talc and sintering at 1300 °C for 60 min, the prepared cordierite-based porous ceramics achieved a compressive strength of 28.15 MPa, a bulk density of 2260 kg/m3, a water absorption of 12.49%, and a thermal conductivity of 2.11 W/(m·K). The modification enhances the reactivity of the raw material, promotes a uniform closed-pore structure, and reduces the sintering temperature and holding time. This optimal process enables low thermal expansion, high porosity, and high-value utilization of black talc.
