• Tetranuclear sodium complexes bearing Salan ligands with benzotriazole and benzothiazole groups were synthesized. • Using sodium catalysts in ring-opening polymerization of L-lactide and tert-butyl glycidyl ether was studied. • Complex 2 was examined to catalyze the formation of poly(L-lactide)-b-poly(tert-butyl glycidyl ether).
