Hydrogen is an ideal energy carrier for energy applications. Magnesium hydride has a high capacity (~7.6 wt%), making it a desirable option for storing hydrogen. However, the development of this material is impeded by its slow kinetics and unstable thermodynamics. MXene is a 2D material with a large surface area and can be easily functionalized by introducing different groups. That makes them more suitable for hydrogen storage applications. In this study, magnesium nanocomposites containing MXene and Vanadium are prepared using the ball milling process. According to the TGA study, the termination point is 432.8°C, the onset temperature is 183.3°C, the thermal decomposition temperature is 413.9°C, and the total weight loss is 3.1 wt%. Mg-5 wt% (MX + V) has an activation energy of 179 kJ/mol. Samples are characterized using XRD and SEM.
