The dynamic precision at the spindle tool-tip critically affects machining accuracy and efficiency. As such, effective techniques are needed to identify and evaluate the dynamic precision at the spindle tool-tip. This study proposes a systematic approach to identify the spindle tool-tip dy-namic response under different workload conditions by defining a load-dependent dynamic response factor (LDRF) and evaluates the LDRF result using quantification of margin and un-certainty (QMU) theory. First, the definition of LDRF is given, while a custom-made workload simulation system is established as the experimental basis for obtaining dynamic response data. Second, a control strategy based on improved sliding mode dynamic matrix control is adopted, and theoretical demonstration, simulation, and experimental analysis verify that the strategy can adapt to different loading situations with high control precision. Lastly, load-dependent QMU theory is proposed to help evaluate tool-tip dynamic response with instructive results. The pro-cedures are combined into a systematic and general technique and are applied on a CNC machine tool spindle as a case study.
