• Arch-firing furnaces struggle to balance ultra-low NOx and efficient burnout. • A staged arch-firing furnace with anthracite reburning addresses this issue. • Anthracite reburning is confirmed to reduce NOx efficiently while remain burnout. • Moderate levels of reburning time and reburning temperature are advantageous. • Parameters of the two anthracite reburning factors are optimized.
