• The 1150 °C composite achieves a tensile strength of 445 MPa and a bending strength of about 712 MPa. • A moderate B2/δ-Mo3Al gradient interface improves load transfer and reduces interfacial embrittlement. • The 2D Mo network deflects and bridges cracks, increasing bending energy absorption from 4.01 to 11.95 MJ·m−3.
