• Accordion-like Ni@Ti3C2TX composites were engineered via a facile strategy. • The conductive MXene acts as an “electron reservoir” to boost Ni2+/Ni3+ cycles. • Strong metal-support interaction optimizes the Ni d-band center for PMS activation. • Near-complete degradation of SMX was achieved within 10 min with low Ni leaching. • The radical-dominated pathway involves synergistic effects of SO4•- and •OH.
