Implementing computer integrated manufacturing systems (CIMSs) is being attempted worldwide in many industries in recent times, but the process of justifying the adoption of a CIMS decides to a great extent the success of such attempts. The justification process involves issues which have both economic and non-economic dimensions. In this paper, a methodological framework has been proposed to analyse comprehensively these multidimensional issues. An example from Indian industry has been explained using this methodology.
