In this article, we describe the design of a new system containing plasmonic nanoparticles working similar to the compound eye. We use lattice plasmon resonance including photonic/plasmonic properties, which comes from the interaction of the far-field array photonic mode and the nanoparticle plasmon resonance. The original goal is applying the lattice plasmon unique specifications to improve the imaging system resolution; these unique properties are due to the plasmonic nanoparticles' retarded field effect on each other, which is missing in the classic compound eye system. We theoretically study the engineering of the lattice plasmon and its effect on image construction, and more importantly the point-spread function improving. For this reason, an array of the nanoparticles is designed to produce the lattice plasmon with a high intensity field and a very narrow line-width to couple to a photo-detector. Interestingly, the photo detector pixels sense the lattice plasmon effect rather than the normal field at the desired focus distance. Each pixel is mapped by the hot-spots in a periodic way like the array's nanoparticles arrangement, by which the image is analyzed with many details. Finally, we theoretically and by modeling results prove that the lattice plasmon has an effective influence on the image resolution via dramatically decreasing the point-spread function.
