Since the discovery of the electrochemical energy and the battery, researchers were trying to improve its performance and recharging capability by analyzing how it performs in different situations and with different current profiles. Since the analysis need some data, a data acquisition medium with high precision measures has to be involved in the test bench to get reliable data and be able to model adequately the batteries. This can help later in research to avoid using real batteries each time to do tests, it also helps in decreasing validation time in some cases. This paper discuses modeling of a 3.7 V lithium-ion battery (SE US18650GR) with a measured capacity of 2800mAh using second order Thevenin model and parameter estimation with different methods. The simple model was capable of good and fast estimation of battery's SOC as function of its voltage, and is suitable for portable electronic devices because of its rapid modeling algorithm.
