• CuSSe and InSSe electrocatalysts enable efficient CO2 conversion to valuable fuels. • Electrodeposition at 22 °C yields controlled, adherent, polycrystalline films. • XRD, SEM, and EDS confirm homogeneous structure and strong film adhesion. • Sulfur-selenium synergy improves charge transfer and catalytic performance. • Light-assisted processes enhance photoelectrochemical CO2 reduction efficiency.
