• Zhunuo and Wubaduolai porphyry Cu deposits formed contemporaneously (∼16–15 Ma) from similar hybrid magma sources. • Zhunuo magmas were emplaced shallower, with higher oxygen fugacity and water content than Wubaduolai magmas. • The extent of ultrapotassic melt involvement is a crucial factor, being significantly higher at Zhunuo (∼20%) than at Wubaduolai (∼5–10%). • Combined shallow emplacement, high fO2, high H2O, and ultrapotassic melt input are key for economic porphyry Cu formation in post-collisional settings.
