• A systematic combined high and low cycle fretting fatigue study of SP, LSP, and LSP + SP dovetail joints is presented. • The role of hybrid LSP + SP treatment under CCF loading is explicitly assessed. • Surface integrity, contact damage, and crack behavior are linked within one framework. • A CCF specific crack initiation model including CRS relaxation is proposed.
