• Flow-induced noise in underwater grille-cavity systems is studied using LES/FW-H. • Sparse and dense flow regimes are identified based on the number of grilles. • Grille density effectively modulates the transition of cavity oscillation modes. • Slanted grilles suppress large-scale vortices by fragmenting the shear layer. • Optimized grille configurations lead to significant far-field noise reduction.
