Abstract

For multi-pass shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) of 304 stainless steel, a coordinated calibration of the heat source model and torch posture (geometric parameters) was performed on a five-layer seven-pass weldment using Simufact Welding software. The validated model was subsequently employed to analyze the equivalent stress fields under three different constraint conditions. The results indicate that the coordinated calibration strategy established a highly accurate finite element model, evidenced by a good agreement between the experimental and simulated weld bead profiles, the equivalent stress distribution under the constraint condition of Scheme 2 was more uniform, accompanied by lower residual stress levels.
