Natural fiber-reinforced polymer composites are lightweight alternatives to synthetic materials, but micro-machining is difficult due to heterogeneity and fiber matrix anisotropy. This study examines micro-milling of a unidirectional hemp/bio-polybutylene succinate (bio-PBS) composite produced by microwave-assisted compression molding technique. A TiSiN-coated tungsten carbide micro end mill is used under dry cutting conditions. Machining parameters are optimized using a hybrid Taguchi GRA multi response optimization approach and then fixed for directional experiments. Feed rate, axial depth of cut, and spindle speed remain fixed, and cutting angles with respect to fiber orientation in composite from 0° to 270° were tested. Performance is assessed using resultant cutting force, delamination factor, and SEM-based burr morphology. Results show strong directional sensitivity, cutting against the fiber direction increases force and edge damage through bending, debonding, and matrix smearing. Oblique angles promote shear-dominated slicing and reduce delamination and burrs. The outcomes provide direction-aware guidance for precision machining of biodegradable composites.
