Abstract

• Quenching eliminates cellular segregation and reduces retained austenite of SLM-H13 steel. • Direct tempering fails to remove inherent microstructural defects from SLM process. • QT treatment produces tempered martensite and balances hardness and corrosion resistance. • Quenching plus tempering is the optimal route for SLM H13 hot-work die steel.
