• Fe(II) drives ferrihydrite transformation and controls antimony mobility. • Sb(III) shows a stronger influence on mineral transformation than Sb(V). • Goethite or lepidocrocite formation depends strongly on Fe:Sb molar ratios. • Up to 61% of antimony becomes stably sequestered beyond surface adsorption. • Fe(II)-mediated processes oxidize Sb(III) to Sb(V) under anoxic conditions.
