Millimeter-scale leaf litter placement modulates carbon dioxide and methane emissions in wetlands
DOI:10.1016/j.apgeochem.2025.106475.png)
Abstract
En 中文
• Millimeter-scale variations in leaf litter burial depth alter CO2 and CH4 emissions from the soil. • A 10-mm soil cover on leaf litter doubled CH4 emissions and cut CO2 emissions by 25 % versus surface placement. • The impact of millimeter-scale burial depth on emissions show models must include micro-scale heterogeneities. • Shallow burial of plant litter reduced net global warming potential and suggests potential for enhanced carbon storage.
