In this paper, we present the convergence analysis for some modified SOR-type iterative method for solving linear systems and provide a comparison of spectral radius among the SOR iterative method and these modified methods. Comparison results and the numerical example show that the rate of convergence of the Gauss-Seidel method is faster than the rate of convergence of the SOR iterative method. (c) 2005 Elsevier Inc.
