Professor Chenhui Wang (1986–2026), a tenure-track Assistant Professor at the School of Life Science and Technology, ShanghaiTech University, passed away unexpectedly on 1 May 2026, at the age of 39. In the firmament of modern renal physiology, Chenhui shone like a meteor—intensely bright, sharply focused, and gone too soon. This memorial traces his scientific journey from his doctoral studies at the National Institute of Biological Sciences, Beijing (NIBS) to the Carnegie Institution and finally to ShanghaiTech. Highlighting his unique academic lineage, his pioneering work on stem cell quiescence and epithelial homeostasis in both the Drosophila intestine and Malpighian tubule, and his unwavering focus on kidney stone disease, I reflect on the indelible mark he left on colleagues, students, and friends.
