Abstract

• The suspended and descending sections of the lazy-wave cable are the most sensitive to fatigue damage. • Increasing flow velocity causes a shift from single-mode dominance to the coexistence of higher-order modes. • PFE analysis reveals spatial variations in modal dominance along the cable span. • Intermittent switching between standing and traveling waves drives modal competition and localized energy migration.
